Its hard to believe there was once a time when bare ankles were
suggestive, only exotic dancers wore thongs and cleavage was something
never, ever revealed in good company.
An exhibit of photos and fashion at the McCord Museum looks at our
perceptions of modesty and eroticism in women’s clothing over the past
150 years. Reveal
or Conceal? is made up of 200 pieces (think corsets, bullet bras,
and hoop skirts) selected from the museums vast Costume and Textiles
collection.
Reveal or Conceal? showing until January 18, 2009 at the McCord Museum
of Canadian History, 690 Sherbrooke Street W., Montreal, 514-398-7100, www.mccord-museum.qc.ca
