We love a little treat with our afternoon tea, but oh-so-sweet cupcakes
and oversized cookies seem to be our only options.
We found an artful array of dainty delicacies at De
Farine & dEau Fraîche, where owner Marilu Gunji cares more
about baking for beauty than bulk. We delighted in the petite but
deliciously dense chocolate bread ball filled with Patisserie cream
($3), and then nibbled neatly on beautiful biscuits, including passion
fruit buttons ($1), a dog-shaped chocolate and vanilla cookie ($1.25),
chocolate kisses (complete with icing lipstick, $1.25) and Matcha
cookies shaped to look like leaves. But the vibrant array of beautifully
decorated wedding-style cakes in cupcake size, perfect for a party of
one, really made us swoon.
Why should a woman have to wait for her wedding to enjoy a beautiful
cake? Marilu asked.
We agree.
