Bangkok is a city like no other. The perfect balance between
contemporary pleasures (world class shopping and eating) and a rich
history and culture left us buzzing in a big way.
Stay
Rest your head at the lovely Ariyasomvilla, a truly
impressive boutique experience. At only 24 rooms we felt completely at
home. Be sure to take full advantage of the gorgeous pool and
traditional Thai massage at the in-house spa. We also heard great things
about the Four Seasons Bangkok from fellow travellers.
Eat
Enjoy an utterly unique and wow-worthy meal at Bo.Lan. We
were impressed by the authentic Thai flavours elevated by artful
presentation, creative use of ingredients and attention to detail.
For something with a more contemporary twist (and a chance to check out
some art) head to Eat Me Restaurant, which features rotating exhibits by
local artists. As for the food, we fell for the heirloom tomato salad
with olive oil ice cream.
Do
Get a glimpse into Bangkoks history with a visit to some
temples. Start with striking Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn), one of the most
recognizable landmarks in Bangkok. Climb to the top for a stunning
aerial view of the city. We were equally impressed with Wat Pho (Temple
of the reclining Buddha). The aforementioned deity is a stunning
46-meters long and 15-meters high.
Shop
Dont miss the Chatuchak Weekend Market, a veritable
shoppers paradise featuring over 8000 stalls filled with everything from
food and books to housewares, vintage clothes and one-of-a-kind finds
from local designers.
Slick Terminal 21, built to look (and feel) like a state-of-the-art
airport, boasts over 600 shops, along with movies, food, salons, spas
and more.
Move
Traffic in Bangkok is horrendous so we suggest avoiding
it altogether. Travel in air conditioned comfort and get anywhere faster
on the convenient and speedy BTS Sky Train.Jessica Padykula
