MUST EAT: TORONTO

April 11, 2013

Last night I found my happy spot.

Although I’ve been meaning to head in ever since Emily Haines copped to going here in our interview, I finally made it.

UNION restaurant on Ossington. It makes you just feel good about life and food and 8 dollar vodka sodas.

All of the ingredients are supplied by southern Ontario farms, and it tastes like it. It tastes how I remember food tasting when I was a child. It tastes like food! It has flavour and warmth and dimension.

Sticky Ribs, chicken legs, and my new favourite thing in the world- union salad, were all carefully destroyed by us, from our seat overlooking the kitchen. It was heaven. Watching someone carefully prepare your meal before you eat it is really the ultimate in food luxury.

If you want to know what made the salad so good – it has bacon, deep fried potato rosti and chevre on it (among other things). It’s like a deep fried breakfast salad. Genius.

They’re always busy, but they do take reservations…

And they offer 1/2 price bottles of wine on Mondays.

Get on it.
