Another day, another restaurant opening, right? Wrong! This week’s opening of the Longtail Kitchen even rivalled the buzz generated by the new J Crew.
In a stunt that could only be described as guerrilla PR, a game gaggle of media met Chef Angus An at Waterfront SkyTrain station at a strictly appointed time, were handed train tickets and whisked quickly to the platform. Within seconds, our train pulled up and we were instructed to step into the last car. Behold: between stops, the team had quickly transformed it into a Thai-themed party, complete with lanterns, flowers, Thai window shades and cushions on the seats. SkyTrain security turned a blind eye (" I saw nothing" she said), and fellow passengers were more than amused (and some quite amusing).
In 20 minutes, we pull up to New West Minster’s River Market www.rivermarket.ca, and Chef An ushers us down to the river and his new Thai street-food inspired restaurant. With cooking classes, wine dinners, and take-home kits for Pad Thai and Hot and Sour soup also on the menu, there’s a lot to be excited about. www.longtailkitchen.com
