5 Questions With Jackie Collins

June 20, 2013

Jackie Collinss world is full of intrigue, power, money, scandal, sexand maybe love, occasionally.
I met up with the newly appointed Officer of the British Empire while she was in Vancouver to attend Jacqui Cohens Face the World Gala.

Its not every day one gets to meet a living legend. When your biography lists twenty-nine time New York Times bestseller, UK’s fifth richest author, and a teenage tryst with Marlon Brando, then you know youve led an enthralling life. Whether life mimics art or vice versa,

Today, we can get our dose of gossip and scandal anywhere. How do you keep your readers intrigued?

There is nothing like getting lost in the book. We all want to hear what Lindsay is doing, what Amanda Bynes is doing… I’m a television addict, but if you can get lost in a book, it’s way better than television.

Yes, you do watch a lot of televisionI noticed that from your Twitter account. Is keeping current very important to you?

I have four Tivos in my bedroom, and they are all full. I spend my life catching up on it. I’m a social media whore. I love it! On Pinterest, I have the hottest men you’ll ever see on my Smokin’ Hot boardI handpick all the pictures. I have a fashion board, a dog board… I’m on Twitter all the time.

Between all the TV and social media, how do you get anything done?

I don’t know. I just finished a new book, to be published by the end of the year. It’s called Confessions of a Wild Child, and it’s Lucky Santangelo when she’s sixteen, as a young adult. I decided I wasn’t going to put a time frame on it. People ask me "How old is Lucky?" and I say, "How old is James Bond?" I didn’t want to make it a time capture, but about a girl that’s sixteen and just discovering boys. How did Lucky become a powerful woman she is today?

In The Power Trip, there are so many similarities to real life characters. We all know a certain Russian billionaire with a supermodel girlfriend.

I take my inspiration from that and then I weave my own story around it. Because if I wrote the real story, Id be boring, you’d know what was going to happen. When I take the "movie star" I might look at Brad or George and I might take the essence of this guy and create my own story with him. Luca, the gay superstar was so much fun to write. Luca’s horrible boyfriend is very much based on a person who I know and loathe, and I think I captured him pretty well.

You’ve led a pretty fruitful life, when can we expect your autobiography? And if theres was a movie made, who would play you?

I’m writing pieces of it now. Angelina Jolie, of course. Everyone wants her for everything. She’s so fantastic.
