A Wednesday afternoon on a yacht?
Dressed in our nautical stripes, we joinedAlex
Thompsonat the helm of this incredible (and completely customized)
Hugo Boss boat, in which he raced around the world by himself in last
yearsVendee
Globe.
And when we say raced around the world, we mean it: its a non-stop,
solo, unassisted, 23,000 mile, 3 month long test of endurance race (he
placed 3rd – a stellar achievement).
The 60 foot racing boat is light, fast, and cost around $3.5 million to
build. Pricey, even in the yacht world.
Enough chit-chat though: With more than 9 sails, the skipper put us to
work. Alex and his team were fantastic hosts! He shared stories of what
its like being alone at sea for so long, his sports psychology
visualization practice and stories of other skippers disasters at sea
(one bit off his own tongue and has to stitch it together himself!).
An afternoon on the open water has us obsessed with sailing… but for
$3.5 million, we’ll stick to just wearing the stripes (for now).
