Admittedly, attending a class on a Sunday night doesn’t sound like a great time. That is, unless you’re enrolled in the Vancouver Urban Winery Sunday School #300 Series, where the only notes you take are tasting ones, and exams get you tipsy.
The classroom was nothing like what we remembered from our schooldays. Forget desks, here, groups of wine lovers sat at candlelit tables laid with long-stemmed glasses and note-taking materials.
The lesson? Intro to France vs. the New World.
Young, energetic sommeliers Dave Stansfield and Lisa Cook taught us how to properly sniff wine to distinguish notes, imparting wisdom on differentiating between the two worlds of wine (tip: if it tastes a little eccentric on the tongue, it’s probably from the Old World).
A couple bottles later, lessons had been learned, ice had been broken, and everyone was well into making new friends and sparking good conversation.
Vancouver Urban Winery, you get a gold star.
VUW’s Sunday School #300 Series has added an extra March class due to overwhelming demand. Tickets for April sessions are available. For more information on buying tickets, click here.
