On a rainy Saturday night we headed to a place that is being hailed for its modern comfort food (read: we heard the fried chicken was a must try).
Stepping into the crowded Mamie Taylor’s, we noticed that it’s just what we’ve come to expect from a Chinatown hotspot – guys with Jared Leto-like locks, beards, toques (not to be taken off under any circumstances) and plenty of lively conversation. (Curiously, our table quickly soon discovered that no one had internet service on their smartphones during dinner, but it magically appeared as soon as we stepped outside. "A jammer?" someone at my table wondered. How Annonymous!).
And that fried chicken ($18) was indeed delicious, served crispy with a side of smashed potatoes, slaw, gravy and buttermilk biscuits. Just like nature – and bearded dudes – intended. —Maria Tallarico
