The Enbridge playRites Festival of New Canadian Plays, presented by Alberta Theatre Projects, starts this month. Now in its 28th year, the festival has premiered 115 new Canadian plays in Calgary before they have gone on to premiere around the world. Here’s what to expect:

same Same but differentYou Will Remember Me by François Archambault (translated by Bobby Theodore) teaches the universal lesson of the importance of living in the moment, while exploring the ties that bind families.

Legend Has It created by Rebecca Northan with Renee Amber, Bruce Horak, Mark Meer, Jamie Northan, and Sean Bowie is an improvisational piece that invites an audience member on stage to be the hero in a fascinating, and hilarious, quest.  

Games by Linda Griffiths, one of Canada’s great playwrights, is a drama that looks at the growing divide amongst parents and their children in this increasingly digital world.  

Same Same But Different by Anita Majumdar is a sparkling and lively musical that explores what it takes to make it in Bollywood. Majumdar herself is a Canadian actress and playwright.
