We’re currently experiencing a movie drought: the Oscars are long(ish) gone and it’s too soon for summer blockbusters.
One of the only feature presentations worth our screen time these days is video artist Christian Marclay’s The Clock, showing at MAC until April 20th. Since its 2010 premiere at London’s White Cube gallery, Marclay’s work has been viewed all over the world: L.A., Japan, Jerusalem, Paris, Sydney, San Francisco and, now, Montreal. The object of our on-screen affection is a 24-hour montage of movie and TV footage. Each clip refers to a specific time, and that time is synched to the real-life time of the outside world.
The effect is wildly mesmerizing. —Christine Laroche
