A STICKY SITUATION

April 9, 2014

kitten and the bear“Jam on a winter took away the blue devils. It was like tasting summer.”

With these words, Sandra Dallas pretty much sums up our sentiments about Toronto’s very own "limited batch confiturier. Kitten and the Bear makes artisan jams, preserves and marmalades by hand, in small batches in the French confiture style. Stepping into its Queen West shop-slash-tiny-tasting room on a cold AND blustery day, we were greeted warmly with wooden shelves stacked high with vintage  such seasonal spreads as blood orange and passion fruit, and pear and ginger. We thought of warmer weather as we smothered our fresh-from-the-oven buttered scones with sweet jam.

The result: instant teleportation to a picnic blanket in the grass under mellow rays of sunshine. —Athena Tsavliris
