Winsor Gallery’s latest exhibition demonstrates the long reach of Vancouver’s artistic community by having 18 artists invite another artist to show alongside them—concurrently, if you will.
Though nearly all invited artists at Concurrent have been Vancouverites at some point, the talent transverses the globe from Calgary to Berlin. The result is a micro-simulation that explores the intricacy of relationships between artists and their artwork, allowing each creator to contextualize his/her own work in a very direct sense through his/her biggest influences or closest friends. Participating artists range from international heavy hitters Ron Moppett, Dana Claxton and Carl Ostendarp to rising stars Evann Siebens and Luke Parnell (whose pop culture/First Nations amalgamation with this My Little Pony-inspired piece leapt out at us).
Consider this your invite.
Concurrent runs until May 3rd at Winsor Gallery, 258 E. 1st Ave., Vancouver, 604-681-4870, www.winsorgallery.com
