Restaurant Review: Daravara

June 17, 2014

daravaraCold pints and fried food will forever be two of our favourite things.

Luckily, Daravara supplies them in spades. As 124th Street’s newest tavern, the eatery also features a row of Big Rock on tap, a bright neon “open” sign in the window and a red brick wall (a subtle nod to co-owner Sue Kiernan’s Empress Ale House across the river). Looking past appearances, Daravara’s just-right menu of enhanced bar food includes Confit Duck Tacos ($5) and BBQ Kale Salad ($6.50) courtesy of chef Shane Loiselle. We inhaled the Zucchini Fritters ($7) (crispy on the outside, gooey within), served with a smooth Pea Guacamole.

It’s one (great) way to get your daily veggies in between beers. —Janis Galloway
