From downtown to the mountains, here are the best ways to ring in our nation’s 147th birthday on July 1st:
Food Truck Round-Up & BassBus: It’s not a celebration without food! Head to Festival Market near Eau Claire to hang out in the dining hub, or find a cosy spot on the lawn and have a picnic. Local DJs will be performing on site.
Stephen Avenue Canada Day Celebration & Art Walk: Canadian Artists for the Poor will be set up on Stephen Avenue between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., along with vendors and other artisans. Find the #IAMDOWNTOWN Summer Stage, where Matt Blais and The Sindicats will be among many musical acts. www.calgarydowntown.com
East Village Street Fair: This family friendly event includes craft and art vendors, live music and activities for the kids. Vintage and classic cars will also be on display. Vroom! http://ev-na.com
Centre Street Bridge Fireworks: We’re definitely not gonna miss this spectacular display, synchronized to live music. With decent viewing points from most places downtown, we hear the best spots are along the Bow River corridor. Start time is 10:45(ish).
Banff: Head to the mountains to see the popular Canada Day parade marching down Banff Avenue at 5 p.m., with a free outdoor concert and fireworks following. Earlier in the day, spend some time in Lake Louise canoeing or watching the annual Polar Bear Dip in the lake. www.banff.ca
