If a week-long silent retreat just isn’t in the cards for you but you desperately need to unwind and de-stress, do as we did and head to Scandinave Spa in Whistler.
Tucked away in a fragrant grove of sweet Spruce and cedar is Scandinave Spa. Walking down the wooded path, the scents of fresh mountain air awakening us, we were greeted by an abundance of flowers and a welcoming spa building complete with fireplace and restaurant, newly supplied by Pemberton’s Solfeggio restaurant. With no phones or cameras allowed, it’s a silent retreat—a place to unplug, but also to recharge the spiritual batteries.
Wrapped in our lush robes, it was time to visit the massage building for our dual deep tissue massage while fresh mountain air wafted in the open windows. Following the hot-cold-relax hydrotherapy cycles in the 20,000-square-foot property, we detoxed in the eucalyptus steam, refreshed under the icy Nordic showers and contemplated our future in the outdoor relaxation lounge while gazing into a fire. Thirty minutes later, it was time to do it all again, this time starting in the fragrant wood-burning sauna, dipping into the cold pool, then swinging our worries away in a hammock.
We worked up an appetite with all that immune-boosting, detoxifying, invigorating hydrotherapy and pulled a chair up to the pretty restaurant overlooking the pools. With an emphasis on healthy, raw and vegan choices, we highly recommend the Mediterranean platter with its cauliflower tabouli, yam crackers, cashew hummus and beet puré.
Refreshed and fully sated, we headed back down the trail where we saw a sign: "Have a Relaxing Journey."
Yes, we will! —Sarah Bancroft
