New Eats: Calgary Stampede

July 4, 2014

calgary stampedeThis year’s Stampede is tempting us with 32 new food creations. Some are a little too crazy for us (we’re looking at you, deep-fried donut bacon cheeseburgers) while others have us intrigued. Here’s what we’ll be munching on at the Midway:

> Deep Fried Cookie Dough: Sticking with the Stampede’s tradition of deep-frying everything, cookie dough is rolled in pastry batter and deep-fried—we’re doing it.

> Fried Pickle Pizza: Call us crazy but this actually might be good. Slivers of deep-fried (obviously) pickles replace the pepperoni on cheese pizza.

> Million Dollar Baby Mac & Cheese: For those looking to keep it classy at Stampede, this dish is for you. Gourmet M&C with truffle oil, crab meat and sundried tomatoes.

> Red Velvet Mini Donuts: Stampede-famous mini donuts get an upgrade with the deliciousness of red velvet and cream cheese. Yes please.

> Polish Poutine: Prep yourself for this one. Someone came up with the amazing (and slightly loopy) idea of piling potato and cheddar cheese perogies, bacon and caramelized onions on top of crispy fries and gravy.

Do it—calories don’t count at Stampede. —Sara Samson
