We think it’s time for a little dance party, some swaying and shoulder bobbing and waving your beer above your head for a second then being like, “nah let’s not do that,” and taking a nice long swing of it instead. Some “Oh my god I love this song”-ing. You know, a really great concert. Here are our upcoming show picks to deliver the magic.
Alt-J: Hailed as one of Britain’s most exciting bands, Mercury Music prizewinning Alt-J, brings their unique, buoyant, and every so slightly geeky pop to Vancouver. We’ve got “Left Hand Free” majorly stuck in our head (thanks, The Peak FM). October 14, The Orpheum, tickets here.
Blitzen Trapper: Portland-based indie-folk outfit Blitzen Trapper is everything you want them to be. Go for groovy acoustic campfire tunes and frontman Eric Earley’s cedar-smoke vocals. October 22, Biltmore Cabaret, tickets here.
Yelle: Dance like a Parisian club kid to Yelle, who’s Chicklet voice and saber-tooth lyrics (we looked up a translation of “Je Veux Te Voir” back in ’08, and whoa) are unparalleled. Her new video, “Completement Fou,” dropped last week, living up to its name in a good way. October 25, Fortune Sound Club, tickets here.
Bastille: The band largely responsible for making the radio good again returns to Vancouver. Hits like “Pompeii” and “Flaws” bring the crowds, but check out their cover of “No Scrubs,” too. November 14, PNE Forum, tickets here.
FKA Twigs: FKA Twigs is the coolest sound we’ve heard in a while, plus her look is killer and she moves like a candle-flicker. The show is going to be sexy, alien madness. Go to undulate to raunchy lyrics and wavy melodies. November 17, Commodore Ballroom, tickets here.
