It’s Wine O’Clock at Vitamin Daily

October 3, 2014

portfolio laughing stockThe Vitamin Daily office can be an interesting place to work: one minute we’re scarfing down Nanaimo Bars to celebrate The Lazy Gourmet’s 35th anniversary, the next we’re tasting Iogo Moments new full-fat yogurt or testing the latest Bugaboo strollers on the concrete floors of our loft.

So when the founders of the Okanagan’s Laughing Stock winery offered to drop by on a Friday afternoon with three vintages for a vertical tasting, we said, “Cheers to that!”

Alongside chunks of Parmesan cheese drizzled in olive oil (cheers to that, too!) we loved the deep, ripe fruit of the 2005 Portfolio red blend, the result of a very hot summer. Being boutique, winemaker David Enns can customize the blend each year, so the 2008 we tried next had a much livelier, acid-forward style to it that had us going back for more. The brand-new release from 2012 had the zing of youth to its advantage, and will certainly be a great one to put down for a few years.

After a few deer and rattlesnake stories, it was time to re-cork the bottles and head back to our desks. All in a day’s work, right? —Sarah Bancroft
