If you thought Toronto’s Drake Hotel was hip and cool, a trip to its country cousin is a must.
Set in a restored 1800s foundry building, rooms at the Drake Devonshire in Prince Edward County are stocked with snack trays, MacAusland throws, custom art (chosen by the in-house curator) and original poetry (and run from $229 a night). Our fave? The swish Owner’s Suite with fireplace, terrace and sweeping views of Lake Ontario.
Downstairs, chef Matt DeMille’s farm-to-table menu is a seasonally perfect selection of things like creamy sweet corn risotto, heirloom tomato salad and charcuterie platters with pickled eggs, smoked fish and house made breads. Wash it all down with the Vintner’s Daughter house wine from Wellington’s Rosehall Run before paying a visit to the Glass Box games room for a spot of ping pong. Very cool indeed.
To the lake! —Marianne Wisenthal
