We say Iceland, you think Björk. But there’s so much more to this Nordic country, and you can conveniently discover it without even packing your carry-on at Taste of Iceland right here in the T-dot.
The four-day festival, which runs from November 13th to 16th, lets you nibble on Icelandic cuisine courtesy of 2014 Nordic chef of the year Viktor Örn Andrésson, who collaborated with Oliver & Bonacini’s Anthony Walsh and Luma’s Michael Wilson to create an Icelandic tasting menu at Luma. Think blow-torched arctic char, with Viking skyr (an Icelandic dairy treat) for dessert. Once you’re right satiated, check out Reykjavik Calling—a free concert showcasing Icelandic artists at the Horseshoe Tavern on November 15th. Or, if flicks are more your thing, there’s some flicks slated for that afternoon at The Royal.
The fest’s an affordable way to get to know Iceland—although it should come with a warning that it’ll make you want to book a trip there posthaste. —Karen Kwan
