Working at Vitamin Daily HQ means we’re privy to a few special treats throughout the year—but none, perhaps, have been quite as special as watching all-star chef Vikram Vij prep a home-cooked meal right in our kitchen.
Vij, who is currently promoting his brand-new partnership with Plan Canada, dropped by to whip up a delicious Vegetable Quinoa Pilaf—one of three exclusive quinoa recipes he’s created to spread a seasonal message of hope and giving.
"For me, this time of year represents an opportunity to gather friends and family around the table and enjoy a meal together," he said. "These gatherings, filled with great conversation and laughter, remind me how lucky I am and the importance of giving back. As I consider gifts for my loved ones, I’ve begun to think outside the gift box and I encourage you all to do the same. This year, I am excited to be able to give a gift of hope and change."
He’s speaking, specifically, of Plan Canada’s Gifts of Hope—a program that lets you choose from a catalogue full of heart-warming gift ideas that make a real (good) impact for people in developing countries around the world. Among these, the Quinoa Project, which, for just $35, allows you to to give a deserving family everything they need for growing a nourishing and life-giving garden: quinoa seeds and other grain crops; training for growing and harvesting the crops; and the know-how to turn those crops into nutritious meals with cooking classes and recipe books.
"I have always been a passionate advocate for the sustainable food industry and a supporter of various charity causes," said Vij. "Plan Canada’s Gifts of Hope support projects that change lives. The gifts provide the opportunity to turn holiday gift-giving into support for families in developing countries."
A gift that keeps on giving. We’re putting this one on our lists. —Noa Nichol
