This Friday, January 9th, a Montreal institution is changing up the pace with a ’90s Slow Jams Dance Party designed to make us feel happy, nostalgic and only a little bit awkward.
The event, hosted by the Mainline Theatre, isn’t just an excuse to put on your best oversize plaid, ripped tights and denim shorts, it’s an opportunity to join together for an evening of slow dancing that is both beautiful and unironic. We’ve personally spent too many nights listening to deafening electronic music while Katy Perry serenades us with a sound that’s anything but her voice. This ’90s Slow Dance Party is gonna remind us that slowing it down some is OK, that loving a slow jam circa 1993 isn’t embarrassing, it’s refreshing! And the combination of the two is what Friday night is all about.
