Valentine Mixtape

February 10, 2015

We were disinclined to musically buy into Christmas and, for Valentine’s Day … eh, we’ll make a concession.

Why the change of heart? Because, if there’s anything we can rely on to evoke feelings, it’s a good tune. So here’s our Valentine’s Day gift to you: a special mixtape we made ourselves.

Think of us when you listen to it? —Adrienne Matei

Let’s just get the hyper-sentimentality out of the way up front and have a good cry to get started with SHALL WE? The Book of Love – The Magnetic Fields

We’re going to have to ease our way back to reality after that. Hold us, Buddy. Dearest – Buddy Holly

HOLD US JOHN PAUL GEORGE AND RINGO. Here, There and Everywhere – The Beatles

Ok ok, we’re ready to dip into something bouncy. Name on a Matchbook – Springtime Carnivore

Bouncier! Tell Him – The Exciters

You can’t decipher the nature of the relationship described in this song, which we like, as we, too, are complicated women. Heartbeat -Jjamz

Hearts howl. Sweet Dreams – Angel Olsen

Campfire lovelorn dusk wails from a local band. Foolish Hearts – Bestie

Hold on, we just had an epiphany. I Don’t Love Anyone – Belle and Sebastian

Just gonna step outside to have a glass of water and stare at the scenery, one sec. One Day – Sharon van Etten

Ok, we tried. Love Will Tear Us Apart – Broken Social Scene
