A dedicated sweets-and-champagne bar, Mosquito may be a new concept in Gastown but its strategy is solid: catch late-night couples as they mince out of their dinner joints, cutely asking each other if there’s room for a bite of dessert.
The dark-blue-and-gold cafe, with its furry throws on banquettes and art-deco vibes, certainly sets an atmosphere for flirtation over creations like a peanut butter milk chocolate mousse bar served with popcorn gelato and a smear of banana jam, rose-lychee macarons, caramel-coffee ice cream parfaits and several items dolloped with various flavours of "cremeux." (Alongside "caramelia espuma" and "pecan gianduja," opportunities to sexily pronounce menu items abound).
If you want to sip sparkling, nibble sweets and make sultry eyes at your date in late-night Gastown, Mosquito’s your spot. —Adrienne Matei
