New Eats: Wishes + Luck

New to Commercial Drive, Wishes + Luck is appropriately dreamy, with a bustling and warm interior and a lovely cedar-wood patio.

The restaurant specializes in brunches and dinner (served occasionally to a live jazz soundtrack), with a menu of accessible and freshly prepared comfort foods, like cheesy meatballs with basil pesto and roasted pork belly alongside crisp spring peas. On our visit both a tempting special of burrata and tomato bruschetta and Salt Spring Island mussels with crispy potatoes were sold out (at 6:30 p.m.), though a complimentary round of whiskey shots ensured we weren’t completely out of luck (as did our order of crispy pork bits: tender jowl-meat croquettes with tangy pickles and mustardy mayonnaise). A brunch menu of benedicts and elderflower fizzes is worth a exploring, too.
