Recap: Hawksworth Young Chef Scholarship Dinner

June 16, 2015

duckAs a card-carrying member of the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege club (apparently I’m not just a frequent flyer but a frequent buyer) I’m now privy to all kinds of exclusive perks and events that plain old money can’t buy.

For example, last week we dined in the private York Room, an extra-large chef’s table above Hawksworth restaurant as part of a fundraising dinner in support of their Young Chefs Scholarship.
The kitchen that night was a who’s-who of Vancouver’s reigning chef princes, including Lee Cooper from L’Abbatoir, Lucais Syme of La Pentola and Cinera, J C Poirier of Ask for Luigi and the crown prince of the evening, David Hawksworth himself.

Rubbing shoulders with some of the city’s most influential food lovers in this intimate and elegant setting, guests enjoyed spot prawns and octopus, squid ink pasta and yarrow meadows duck, and bacon-wrapped Alberta tenderloin. Throughout the evening, diners posted their best pictures and comments on social media and a few lucky individuals were awarded with Hawksworth gift cards signed by Hawksworth himself, making for a fun and interactive evening. What, me competitive?
