Vancouver’s beloved Spanish resto, La Bodega, is back, reincarnated as Bodega on Main—and we were among the first to try it.
Situated in trendy Chinatown, we were immediately struck by the warm atmosphere in this family-run restaurant, whose décor includes an eclectic mix of playful artwork and photos from the former establishment. Must-trys from the menu: Spain’s national dish, paella, and the oh-so-addictive patatas bravas, a.k.a., twice-fried potatoes tossed with a spicy tomato sauce that’s worth trying on its own (ask GM Hector Medina for a side to experience it raw—it’s like a lighter version of gazpacho). For dessert, sink your teeth into some sweet new offerings, such as bombon de higos—in fact, Bodega on Main is the only place in town to get these chocolate-covered figs that taste like brandy beans combined with Ferrero Rocher. Happy hour and a lounge are soon to come.
Until next time, hasta leugo! —Miranda Sam
