Last weekend we got a taste of what it might feel like to travel on Santa’s sleigh, right here in Vancouver, with FlyOver Canada.
Launched in 2013, this experience has become one of Vancouver’s most popular attractions. Hanging suspended in chairlift-style seats at Canada Place, we were whisked over Canada’s diverse scenery, from Iceberg Alley on the coast of Newfoundland, to the Aurora Borealis in Canada’s North. We could almost imagine what it would have been like to be the pilot of the helicopter and Learjet that were used to capture the original shots of the scenery. Details like a mist of water as we flew through a cloud, or the smell of forest pine made the experience feel like the real deal.
For the holiday season (November 27th to January 5th) FlyOver Canada has created an extended experience, with a special stop in, you guessed it—the North Pole. On this trip, we joined Santa in a search for his missing elves, who’ve escaped the Pole and taken a jaunt to Canada (we can’t say we blame them, our country is gorgeous!).
We also got some tips for ensuring smooth sailing. First, before buying your tickets, confirm your passengers are at least 40 inches (102 centimetres) tall. Also, be sure to get FastLane passes instead of general admission tickets, which secure a 30 minute window for you in the queue (read: shorter wait times). Finally, don’t forget to enjoy the live performances, ice sculpting, s’mores station and vendors after your trip. FlyOver Canada is definitely the perfect holiday activity for the whole family.
