In 2015 we focused on what we put in our bodies (by eating organic, clean foods) and on them (by purchasing sulfate-free soaps and chemical-free cleaning products).
But 2016 is all about the linens that come into contact with our skin for all the hours we spend in bed. At the top of our resolution list: to invest in a set of super-soft, 100 per cent organic cotton sheets from Vancouver’s Dream Designs.
Originally opened as Commercial Drive’s “Dream Futon” in 1981 by Prince-Edward native Irma McInnis, Dream Designs has strong community roots. With her commitment to quality and sustainability, it wasn’t long after setting up shop that Irma became known as the neighbourhood’s “Cotton Queen.”
Four decades later Irma has passed on, but her legacy and dedication to handcrafted natural textiles lives on under new owner Bei Linda Tang. The company’s motto “To live better, to feel better and to be better,” is apparent in every product: from the soft doubled-sided brushed organic flannel bed sheets to the organic cotton baby bedding. Along with bed linens, Dream Designs offers healthy, organic mattresses, towels, décor items and yoga apparel.
And if that wasn’t enough good stuff, the store also runs three altruistic initiatives that we’re looking forward to participating in in 2016:
Donate a sheet to benefit a family in need and receive 15 per cent off Dream Designs’ organic cotton bedding.
Textile recycling: Give childhood quilts new life by having them turned into a beautiful unique quilt that someone else can enjoy.
Banners to bags: Dream Designs makes bags from recycled nylon banners to help lessen the heavy load of library books and groceries. #WinWin
