When home builder and philanthropist Michael Audain and his wife Yoshiko Karasawa decided to build a public home for their art collection, a friend asked if they would consider Whistler. All it took was one visit to the forested area overlooking the mountains to decide to call it home to their extensive collection of BC art. Inspired by breathtaking alpine landscape, and designed by Patkau Architects, the Audain Art Museum’s contemporary design allows art to shine through. A complementary work of art, patrons can gaze out to the forested landscape while soaking in the beautiful exhibits. With a focus on artists from British Columbia, permanent collections include an extensive Emily Carr exhibition, and the inspiring and historical First Nations gallery, a dominant and sophisticated exhibition that carries First Nation’s craftsmanship and its legacy through to modern day. We highly recommend you head to the mountains and soak it all in. — Aleeza Khan
