There’s lots to love about the French. They gave us Champagne, roulette, and neon lighting, to name a few. They also gave us Le Creuset.
A lifestyle choice for many, the trend-setting kitchenware brand began in Fresnoy-le-Grand, France, in 1925 with its first product: an enamelled cast-iron French Oven in Flame (that’s orange, for those of you who don’t ‘Creus’).
It has since grown to become arguably the most beloved French cookware line in the world, bringing colour to dull and drab cupboards everywhere, and creating covetable casserole dishes and mini cocottes to pass down from generation to generation. In fact, even 90 years later, all of the cast-iron products are still forged in the same historical foundry in France with a 12-step finishing process.
Which is why its all the more exciting that Le Creuset’s iconic, ever-expanding range of colourful creations are now lining the shelves of the brand’s largest boutique yet—a bright, white 2,000-sq.ft. retail shop, 12-seat demonstration kitchen (chef schedule coming for fall) and café on South Granville in Vancouver. The coffee bar is a first for the brand, which now has eight Canadian locations and 500 worldwide, offering cappuccinos, lattes, and other espresso-based beverages, as well as freshly baked pastries from Thierry.
If the chance to sip coffee in a veritable dream kitchen wasn’t enough, devotees can also browse Le Creuset’s complete collection of cookware, bakeware, tableware and accessories, including in the popular rose pink colourway, Bonbon, in which delicate sophistication meets almost a century of strength. —Kelsey Klassen
