Canada Day Celebrations in Vancouver (and Beyond)

June 28, 2016

Lifestyle & Parenting

Three fun things to do in the Lower Mainland this Friday, July 1.

For the kids (and the young at heart)
Granville Island is often overlooked when locals are thinking about their July 1 celebrations, but it truly has something for everyone. Favourites include the bike decorating workshop (and parade), kayak demos, selfie station and water park.

Canada Day 1

For the foodie
Sure, there’s great music and cool cars. But, for over 70 years, the main attraction at this festival has been salmon (over 1,200 pounds of it, actually). Get your tickets early. The Steveston Salmon Festival sells out its famous salmon barbeque ($15/plate) every year.

Canada Day 2

For the traveller
If you’re eager to get out of the city for the long weekend, Osoyoos, the southern-most town in the Okanagan, throws an awesome Cherry Fiesta Canada Day party. Highlights: pancake breakfast, parade and the biggest July 1st fireworks display in Western Canada. —Jennifer Foden
