Delicious Island Time

August 9, 2016

A clambake with a slew of top chefs … in Toronto? There was no way we were missing out on that.

On Sunday, August 7, we were whisked off to Toronto Island on a private ferry for the third annual sold-out ProvisionsTO Almanac Island (with proceeds benefitting Artscape Gibraltar Point). With a refreshing watermelon, beet and gin-based cocktail to greet us, we all happily took in the pretty tables set with red checkered tablecloths and charming flowers, with strings of fairy lights overhead. Kevin Castonguay of ProvisionsTO, along with seven chefs—who foodies will be well familiar with, think Dustin Gallagher and Marc Thuet, to name just two—had the impressive clambake and other courses on the go. And our good food-lovin’ hearts were already aflutter, but that wasn’t all: there were pairings with each course, including Samuel Adams IPA and our fave, the West Ave Gold Dust Cider.

With lawn games (life-size Jenga and badminton) and the nearby beach, all on a gorgeous summer day and with a mix of classic feel-good hits and 90s r&b, which had much of the crowd dancing, we can say that anyone who missed out, well, your FOMO is valid. The whole roast pig was juicy and the fingerling potatoes the stuff carb dreams are made of. The upside for you is you now know to act fast and snap up tickets early going forward (check out Pass the Table for more exclusive foodie events). —Karen Kwan
