Cereal Cafe Pops up in Vancouver

September 27, 2016

It started with Cereal Killer in London, and these days, cereal-only cafés are emerging all over the place. Now, Vancouver is getting one, but for two days only. Crunchtime Cereal Bar will be open from October 1-2 in Gastown. On the menu, cereals from home and abroad, including Nestle Lion, from Europe, Golden Nuggets, from the UK, and Kellogg’s Smorz, the American marshmallow/chocolate corn-puff mix. You’ll be able to choose between regular, soy, almond and chocolate milk, and add toppings like Gummi Bears and sprinkles. Decor will be neon-meets-tropical – floral flourishes, brightly coloured accents and a cereal curtain. Sounds a little too hipster for your liking? Less of the judgy pants: It’s in a very good cause. All proceeds will be donated to local charity Backpack Buddies, which provides food for vulnerable children who would otherwise go hungry. —Aileen Lalor

Crunchtime Cereal Bar is at 311 W Cordova St from October 1-2, from 8am to 6pm. A bowl of cereal with regular milk will cost you $5. Substitute soy, almond or chocolate milk for an additional $0.75. Toppings are $0.50 each.
