1. Head downtown and eat at as many restaurants as possible during the Big Taste 10-day event. Participating restaurants (there are nearly 100) are offering prix-fixe menus so you can try some of the city’s best spots on a budget.
2. The annual Maple Festival des Sucres festival at Heritage Park celebrates French Canadian, Metis and First Nations cultures through musical performance, dance, storytelling and, yes, maple taffy on snow.
3. Get expert advice from contractors, landscapers and gardeners at the Calgary Home and Garden Show.
4. Yogis of all skill levels can take part in the A Knight of Yoga: Yogathon to help raise money for a non-profit that hosts life-changing retreats for cancer survivors.
5. Little Modern Market is being held at Earl Grey Golf Club in the city’s southwest. Shop for children’s apparel, home décor, art and more.
6. Theatre Calgary’s latest show, a theatrical adaptation of Khaled Hosseini’s novel A Thousand Splendid Suns, follows an unlikely friendship between two women in war-torn Afghanistan.
7. Celebrate everyone’s favourite Irish holiday with traditional music, dancing and lots of delicious food and drink. Kids are also welcome at this family-friendly event.
8. Two breweries recently opened in Inglewood: Cold Garden and High Line Brewing. Head over for a mini-brewery crawl (both offer tastings and High Line does tours).
9. The wait is finally over: Simons is opening in Calgary this month. Head to The Core to shop for men and women’s apparel, plus the home collection which includes bedroom, bath and kitchen décor items.
10. Big Rock Brewery’s delicious craft beers are paired with Heritage Park’s seasonal cuisine at this inaugural brewmaster’s dinner. Enjoy a delicious four-course Irish fusion meal followed by a performance by a Cape Breton fiddler.
