I’m no stranger to a good yoga pant. This weekend, forced to do my first springtime closet purge in years ahead of a move that will see my husband, daughter and I downsize from 3,500 square feet in the ‘burbs to a mere 1,000 in the city, I realized the full extent of my problem. Not only do I own more than two-dozen pairs of what is, arguably, the single most important item to the athleisure trend, but parting with any one of them felt like a monumental challenge.
So, when Vancouver-based premium loungewear company Smash + Tess asked me to try its new Saturday Romper ($98) as an alternative to my beloved Lycra leggings, I had my doubts. While the idea certainly sounded appealing, could someone so very firmly entrenched in the yoga-pant way of life really be swayed? The answer is a loud and resounding YES. Made of a super-soft Rayon from bamboo and cotton blend right here in Canada, this one-piece wonder boasts no zippers or buttons but includes wide front pockets and a drop waist for an overlook look and feel that I can only describe as "kangaroo comfy" (and I mean that in the best way possible). Throughout the course of the weekend I wore it to bed, to Starbucks, to the grocery store, to toddler time, to a gentle Hatha class and, of course, to Netflix and chill—and was not surprised to learn that it falls under what Glamour mag has dubbed "bathleisure" (a perfect marriage of bathrobes and PJs that, yes, you can wear out of the house).
Call me a believer. I’m now eyeing Smash + Tess’ Sunday Romper (same idea, but with sleeves) to complete my weekend wardrobe. —Noa Nichol
