Fill ‘Er Up

June 12, 2017

If watching celebs like Gwen Stefani—who, God love them, seem to be aging without a wrinkle—is getting under your skin, you’re not alone. The older we get, the more collagen we lose. And, clearly, some of us are using more than a night cream to turn back the clock.

We consulted leading plastic surgeon, Dr. Mosher, to help us understand how fillers work to target deep lines and aging hollows. Following an in-depth consultation, Dr. Mosher recommended we try a hyaluronic filler called Restylane. A leading injectable with a 40-year track record, Restylane helps plump the skin for a natural, youthful appearance. Lasting for months, it can be injected under the eyes, on the nose and in the cheeks and jowls—lips and hands stand to benefit, too (just be sure to choose a trusted and experienced practitioner). For our face, the doctor took a phased approach, starting conservatively with just a few tweaks on our cheeks and near our mouth. He first applied a numbing cream and, a few injections later, we were done—no bruising or swelling in sight.

While a mere "dabble" into the world of Restylane, we can already see noticeable improvement. So this is Gwen Stefani’s secret weapon … or maybe not. But it’s definitely worth trying, and trying again. —Aurea Dempsey
