When a brand-new Motorola Moto Z2 Play slid across our desk last week, our instant reaction was, "Man, this is one sexy phone!" Slim, sleek and satiny smooth (yet substantial all the same) it’s one of the best-looking handsets we’ve seen. But there’s more—much more—to this modular smartphone than meets the eye.
Among the Moto Z2 Play’s many, many, MANY attributes: a 5.5-inch display, 1080p resolution, long-lasting battery life (you can get up to 30 hours before needing a charge) and a really great camera that produces shots with super colour and detail—even in tricky lowlight conditions (i.e., when our daughter is fast asleep and we’re sneaking pics of her, which she’ll probably curse us out for at some point in the future). But the best part may just be Moto Mods: a range of smart, useful and—we think—whimsical add-ons, like real-wood-looking Style Shells, a TurboPower Pack that turns your smartphone into a battery powerhouse, a Moto Insta-Share Projector that projects your screen up to 70 inches, a JBL SoundBoost Speaker that creates full stereo sound and a Hasselblad True Zoom Camera that puts professional zoom onto your smartphone, all of which snap on in a cinch thanks to a magnet-powered system that’s simple and unfussy (just listen for a soft and satisfying click, and your chosen Mod is locked in).
We’ll be taking a microscope to each Moto Mod mentioned in the remainder of this series—and wrapping it all up in late September with a contest that will see one lucky reader win their very own Motorola Moto Z2 Play, Mod’d out. Stay tuned! —Vita Daily
