We’re not saying that natural light, stainless-steel appliances and soaring ceilings aren’t important but, when it comes to buying a house, location, location, location tops our priority list (there’s a reason our favourite real estate app gives properties a "walkability" score). That’s what makes Gabriola Park—Langley’s latest and, dare we say, most-desirable residential development, consisting of three- and four-bedroom cottage-style homes in a gorgeous green park-like setting—so appealing. Below, our list of the top amenities you’ll be able to reach in no-time-flat should you choose to make Gabriola Park your new home. —Noa Nichol
restaurants. It’s one of the basic necessities of life, and there’s no shortage of it in close proximity to Gabriola Park. Among our favourite local purveyors of food: gastropub Oak & Thorne, where the poutine is legendary, and Ra Sushi (try the salmon-filled Crazy Roll, with a deliciously light sprinkling of panko on top).
shopping. When you’re hankering for a midnight snack (or forgot to pick up milk on your way home from work) it’s paramount that groceries are nearby. MarketPlace IGA carries a stellar selection of fresh (and, more often than not, Fraser Valley-grown) produce, while the Save-On-Foods in Walnut Grove is home to some of the friendliest staff in the supermarket game (no joke). Looking for specialty? Grocers like Meridian Meats and Kin’s Farm Market are just a hop, skip and jump away.
pampering. Need your hair cut? Your nails done? Beauticians abound in the neighbourhood surrounding Gabriola Park. The estheticians at Polished Nail Studio are incredible (when our gel extension fell off before a big night out, they were able to squeeze us in on short notice, and they even offers Swarovski crystal embellishments) and Vivid Hair Boutique & Blow Dry Bar provides a heavenly "lasting impression" treatment that includes a refreshing wash, a suited-to-your-hair-type treatment, a halo massage with essential oils, a relaxing scalp massage and a hot towel head wrap to finish. Bliss.
fun. Easy-to-access entertainment? Yes, please! Date night’s a snap at Gabriola Park, with multiple movies showing on multiple screens at nearby Cineplex Colossus Langley (bonus: comfy reclining seats!), and, for fun with the wee ones, Captain Kid’s boasts giant slides, obstacle courses and more, for just $4 a child (adults are always free). Best of all, the Langley Events Centre, just down 200th Street, is home to hockey’s Vancouver Giants. Score!
