Family and friends aside (not that we don’t love and appreciate them; we really do!) the best part of Thanksgiving is the food. That said, this year we’re looking at an alternative way to celebrate that puts the focus squarely back on everything we hold dearest about the holiday: that tart cranberry sauce, rich brown gravy, buttery mashed potatoes, sticky-sweet maple yams and, of course, a perfectly moist turkey (is your mouth watering yet?).
Enter The Westin Bayshore, which is offering the first in its series of brand-new Vancouver Cooking Classes at H2 Rotisserie & Bar on Monday, October 9th, 2017. The aptly named Thanksgiving Feast class will see H2’s very own executive chef Kamal Silva, executive sous chef Mike Reid and chef Caitlin Mark lead an intimate group of 12 eager students through the making of a traditional Thanksgiving meal, with all the fixings. Hands-on aspects of the class will include learning to toss the perfect holiday spinach salad, whip up a classic cranberry stuffing and roast the tastiest brussel sprouts with bacon and parmesan. Since a whole bird can take up to six hours to cook, H2’s expert chefs will teach attendees the basics of prepping a turkey … but will have some birds roasting ahead of time so that dinner isn’t delayed (psst: you can test out your newfound turkey-making skills in full at Christmas!).
Once the cooking portion of class is over, the eating will commence in H2’s elegant dining room. Students will be served their very own creations—along with a scrumptious pumpkin chiffon pie for dessert. The cost: just $85 per person (plus an additional fee for expertly chosen wine pairings, by the glass or bottle). A definite deal when it comes to learning to cook like a pro from some of the top chefs in the city—and, dare we say, something to be thankful for!
