My husband, Jay, is going to KILL me (don’t call the authorities, he’ll just be kind of miffed … for a few days) but, when it comes to our weekly date night, it’s The Bachelor Canada all the way.
No, I do not force him to watch—in fact, every Wednesday, after we’ve tucked our two-year-old into bed, I head up to our loft (the "big" TV is there—all the better to watch the drama unfold as retired pro baseball player Chris Leroux whittles away at 20 lovely ladies to, end goal, find the love of his life) to find Jay’s already fired up the tube, clicked over to W Network and poured two generous glasses of Two Oceans 2017 Sauvignon Blanc—the perfect white, boasting ripe gooseberry flavours backed by tropical fruits and a crisp finish (try it with shellfish, yum) with which to enjoy our favourite reality show.
Last night, episode seven, was particularly rivetting (full disclosure: I say that every week … but I mean it!). With hometowns on the horizon, Chris had a whole bunch of painful decisions to make—and, accordingly, many, many tears were shed. Hubby and I cuddled up on the couch, vino in hand, and watched, hearts in our throats, as youth care practitioner Jessie got the one-on-one (and cried) and those on the group date (fashion PR gal Mikaela, publicist Lyndsey and restaurant manager Stacy) built sand sculptures (as you do when you’re in beautiful Puerto Plata, in the Dominican Republic), with Stacy winning coveted time alone with our boy. The dreaded two-on-one date saw terrible weather (rain to rival what we’ve been experiencing in Vancouver) as lawyer Catie and jet-setter Kait (name confusion, much?) headed up a mountain in a cable car with Chris, only for poor Kait, after professing her love, to head back down solo with a so-called "vulnerability hangover" (so adopting that term!).
As Jay and I refilled our cups, Chris decided to skip the cocktail party and go straight to the rose ceremony, sending Stacy and Jessie packing (my husband, who had everything riding on Jessie from the start, lost our bet). And then there were three.
So cheers to date night, cheers to Two Oceans Wines and cheers to The Bachelor Canada—you know we (yup, both the hubby and myself) will be watching next week! —Noa Nichol
