Favourite family hangout and keeper of deliciousness, the kitchen is widely considered the most important space in our homes. Interior designer and TV personality Jane Lockhart has teamed up with LG Canada to share some expert advice on how we can improve our kitchen aesthetic and productivity. —Rachel Johnston
What do you find most satisfying about interior design?
Interior design allows me to build strong and lasting relationships with clients. Ultimately, interior design is about people’s stories and I feel privileged to be included in their life journeys.
Why do party guests usually end up congregating in the kitchen?
The kitchen is, as they say, the heart of the home. It’s a busy and warm place where all the action happens in the house. It’s an inclusive room that touches all the senses so it’s stimulating and social all at once!
Can you provide a few tips on how to refresh our kitchen decor?
The kitchen can easily be changed with paint colour. Paint your walls or your cabinets to update the space and freshen up. Or remove your old counter top and add a new one out of a new stone or solid surface. Add a new backsplash to create a focal point or new hanging lights for a bit of bling. Of course, new appliances like the LG black stainless steel series will add a new modern feel to an older kitchen.
As the holidays approach, what are some small innovations in appliances we can introduce into our homes?
The technology and design of appliances continue to evolve to really help us at home. Companies like LG work hard to listen to customer feedback to change the interaction of appliance to user. With four spray arms instead of just two, the LG QuadWash systems gives you more washing power, which is important for those extra holiday dishes. The LG InstaView Door-in-Door refrigerator saves energy because a simple knock on the door reveals what’s inside through a glass panel without opening the actual door.
