How to Have Glowing Skin This Winter

December 13, 2017

Winter is in full swing and, while it can be an amazing time of year, the cold weather is often too harsh and drying on your skin. Being outdoors can be even more damaging to your skin as you can get windburn, which can result in redness, soreness, itchiness and excessive dryness of the skin. Having a good skin-care regimen in winter is important to keep your complexion healthy and to protect it from the elements. If you’ve always experienced having rough and dry skin during the cold months, try these tips to have soft, smooth, and glowing skin this winter:

drink lots of water. Your skin will look and feel better if you hydrate from within. During the cold months, it’s easy to forget about drinking water as the freezing temperature makes us want to drink warming beverages such as coffee, cocoa or hot cider. However, nothing compares to drinking up to eight glasses of water to keep your skin looking its best. If you don’t like the taste of plain water, you can infuse cut-up berries or cucumbers in a pitcher of water to make a delicious and refreshing beverage.

do a home facial mask. Doing a home facial can be beneficial to your skin, especially if you use ingredients that will attract and lock in skin moisture. You can mash up a banana and apply it to your face for an all-natural face mask that can leave your skin feeling softer and smoother. If you want something more hydrating, mix up two teaspoons of coconut oil with half a teaspoon of honey. Apply to your face and rinse after 15 minutes. Follow with a hydrating toner, essence, and moisturiser.

take short hot showers. A hot shower may feel good in winter, but it can contribute to your skin’s dryness. Try to take shorter showers and use a moisturising soap to clean your skin. After, apply body oil or lotion while skin is still damp to get the full hydrating benefits of your skin moisturiser.

take off your makeup with a cream cleanser. Using drugstore makeup-remover wipes may be the fastest way to take off your makeup, but it can be drying and irritating for people with sensitive skin. This winter, switch to a cream or oil cleanser to take off your makeup, then cleanse again with water and a moisturising facial wash.

Follow these tips to get soft and hydrated skin this winter. You’ll be surprised at how healthy and glowing your skin can get even during the cold months. —Jenny Holt
