When it comes to making resolutions for the new year, some tend to think they’re going to break them as soon as they make them. However, instead of coming up with resolutions like learning a new language that you have little to no interest in, or signing up for the gym even though you know you’ll be a stranger to exercise come February (with a surprising statistic showing that we are too ashamed to admit we’ve stopped going to the gym, and 80 per cent of Americans who have gym memberships just don’t use them), why not look to start the new year with a bang by picking resolutions that really work well for you?
set aside time for that well-earned break. We all know that once Labour Day (Monday, September 3, 2017, for those eager beavers who want to mark it down now and want to avoid the fashion error of wearing white clothes after this date) has been and gone, the year starts to err very much on the side of cold and miserable. What we don’t normally do at this point is set aside time to indulge and get our mojo back.
Sure, your boss might not be wonderful at letting you book vacation time, and it’s not impossible that you’re feeling the pinch from Christmas and Thanksgiving and therefore don’t want to spend money in January on a new treat for yourself. However, if you can at the very least try to book some time later in the year to get away and get your spirit levels (and even your vitamin D levels!) back up even just by having a pamper weekend, you’ll find yourself in a happier place come the following winter.
make your finances reward you. While most resolutions tend to cost you money, Canada’s best cashback cards could well end up rewarding you simply for spending money. You’ll have to fill out a form, but that form for cards like the SimplyCash card from American Express could end up generating up to $5,000 cashback in your first six months, just for paying for gas or groceries.
With most people looking to end the year in a better financial state than they started it, there can be no excuse for failing to get your finances in order, especially if you’re already spending cash on a credit card already. Indeed, with most cards coming with no fee and no minimum income requirements, you can benefit from them even if you’re not already in a perfect place financially.
look forward to easter and valentine’s day! Of course, it’s easy to feel like the high point of winter is over when you’ve already enjoyed Christmas and New Year’s Eve, but it is crucial to remember that the snow will soon start thawing and the days are going to start getting longer and brighter. You can escape the last of the winter days by indulging in some Netflix shows under your duvet with some comfort food within arm’s reach, but remember that with each passing day, you are getting closer and closer to Valentine’s Day and Easter, and in the process only a hop away from spring and all of the happiness that this brings.
With this in mind, bring on January 2018!
