Let’s get real: my kid’s and my music tastes do not gel. I grew up listening to hip hop in the ’90s and it’s still my genre of choice (along with true-crime podcasts), while she prefers Sharon, Lois & Bram. This makes long trips—by car, plane, train or ferry—somewhat trying (she usually wins the “what should we listen to” war).
Luckily, I’ve found a super solution to this aural issue, that’s super cute, to boot. Snuggly Rascals (about $25 Canadian, and the U.K.-based company ships worldwide) are headphones designed specially for kiddies—essentially, they are speakers installed in a comfy fleece headband that fits over the ears and can be plugged into most any sound system. They provide a healthy level of volume for little eardrums, are machine washable (chart-topping criteria for any mom) and size adjustable, and come in a range of adorable designs, from a rainbow-horned unicorn to a fanged green monster. My babe, who usually hates wearing anything on her head, absolutely loves them, and I am spared having to listen to Skinamarinky Dinky Dink on repeat.
Best of all, the company donates a generous chunk of its earning to children’s charities. Now that’s music to my ears. —Noa Nichol
