One of our favourite jewelers, Pomellato, may catch the eye with the colour, craftsmanship and creativity of its stunning rings, bracelets, pendants, earrings and more, but that’s just the tip of the (glimmering) iceberg. The Italian-based brand is, and has since the very start been, a champion of women—a fact we feel should be celebrated this International Women’s Day.
It all started in 1967, when Pomellato was founded in Milan by Pino Rabolini. Introducing a prêt-à-porter philosophy to the traditionally conservative world of jewelry, Rabolini revolutionized women’s fashion choices while shaping Pomellato with a powerful, fashion-forward identity. Fast-forward 50 successful years to 2017, and the brand’s #PomellatoForWomen campaign, shot by Peter Lindbergh, starred several accomplished, empowering, forward-thinking females from an inclusive cross-section of various disciplines, ages, features and arts—the bearers of Pomellato’s values, standing united with a confidence in who they are.
This year, the jeweler’s #PomellatoForWomen initiative continues, with a brand-new, inspiring-as-ever ambassador. Self-made Italian businesswoman Chiara Ferragni launched her blog, The Blonde Salad, in 2009 as a foundation for her one-of-a-kind fashion empire and a precursor to her becoming one of the foremost fashion influencers in the world.
"I am so proud to join this campaign that represents everything that women can be—strong, capable and fiercely independent," says Ferragni. "I love the way Pomellato is building a platform for women, celebrating women from different walks of life."
Not only is this year’s #PomellatoForWomen campaign headed by an amazing woman, it’s meant to highlight the ever-present importance of female leadership—something that the company has in spades. Seventy-five per cent of Pomellato’s workforce is women, and it’s been headed in spectacular manner by CEO Sabina Belli since 2015.
"For the #PomellatoForWomen we really went back to our roots, to when and where it all began, with and for women," Belli says. "And almost by some historical accident it’s an idea worth returning to, because the question of women’s rights is very much alive again today. Pomellato jewels act as exquisite frames for the real heroes of everyday life—the women themselves—and this is who we want to celebrate."
Indeed, since its inception, Pomellato has been a dedicated women’s affair: women buy these dazzling jewels to please themselves in an empowering act of self-gratification and joy (amen!). And, after five decades of designing for women, the #PomellatoForWomen campaign celebrates the female herself, believing that she is the most beautiful creation of all. (Psst: Check out the video below, in which Pomellato brings together a group of fabulous women to spread a wholehearted choral message of female empowerment. Enjoy!) —Noa Nichol
