Spring Break Packing Made Simple

March 13, 2018

Heading off on holiday this month? Us, too! Admittedly, though, while we’re very much looking forward to some much-needed fun and sunshine, the question of what to pack arises each and every time spring break rolls around (you’d think we’d have it figured out by now but, no). That said, here’s a look at what we’ve committed to bringing with us (to California, next week)—while our list isn’t complete (clothing options are still up in the air), these must-bring items have the key distinction of making the early (i.e., not the night before) cut! —Noa Nichol

the bag. Our current spring break bag of choice is this Sherpa tote ($210) by Taikan. A combo of cotton canvas and veg-tan leather, this roomy carry-all boasts four exterior storage pockets and an internal design ideal for lugging around any portable technology (including laptop) we may choose to bring with us on vacay (though we’re seriously considering unplugging completely and leaving the computer at home—in which case, this beauty will be stuffed with bathing suits and beach towels). taikaneverything.com

the books. Carry-on culture in mind, it just makes sense to leave the pile of paperbacks we’ve been meaning to get to at home and load all of our poolside page-turners on this brand-new-from-Kobo Aura H2O eReader ($200), featuring a whopping 8 GB of storage (translation: up to 6,000 eBooks, of nearly 6 million titles available at kobo.com) and weeks of battery life (no panicking over a forgotten-at-home plug). Best of all, it is, as its name suggests, waterproof, and can withstand up to 60 minutes fully submerged in two metres of water—in other words, a little ocean spray won’t hurt! ca.kobobooks.com

the pix. With kids in tow, it’s become extra important to us to capture our spring break memories on "film". Translation: we always come home with a TONNE of photo on our phones, which we’re keen to share with family and friends. That’s where our third item comes in: though we may or may not pack Fujifilm’s new wireless Instax Square Share SP-3 Printer ($250 at Best Buy) in our bag (it’s totally portable, so no big deal if we do), we definitely consider it a holiday essential when it comes to printing our pix post-vacay. After all, doing so is as easy as choosing our best shots from our smartphone and social media feeds and transferring them from the app to SP-3 via Wi-Fi connection to print adorable old-school album-worthy square photos. fujifilm.ca

the kicks. When we’re on vacay these days, it’s all about comfortable, functional footwear. Flip-flops aside, our new spring break shoe go-to can be found among the latest sneaker launch by Geox, dubbed Nebula, which ensures exceptional breathability and comfort through the use of innovative technology (we could get into that but, trust us, these kicks are next-level comf). Offering styles in suede and leather, plus cool textile patterns, both guys and gals can find the perfect travel shoe (our pick comes in a gorgeous colour called antique rose). geox.com
