Earth Day’s coming up and we haven’t forgotten about your hair! With North American salons producing 421,206 pounds of waste daily, one of our fave hair-care destinations, Chatters, is working with Green Circle Salons—a movement to help the salon and beauty industry reduce its environmental footprint—to help alleviate this hair-raising problem. By recycling used hair foils, products, papers and plastics, Chatters Salons has been able to reduce 95 per cent of its salons’ waste from ending up in landfills and waterways. That’s ’80s-hair-big news! We recently caught up with Chatters spokeswoman Corine Sim to get her top five tips for going green with your hair routine—on April 22nd and beyond. —Vita Daily
number 1. Wash hair less often and use a dry shampoo, like the Kenneth Bernard DryClean Dry Shampoo.
number 2. Use earth-friendly products from eco-conscious lines like Matrix R.A.W., Alterna Bamboo, Abba and Pureology. Corine also suggests seeking out product in bottles that are recyclable.
number 3. Use your blow dryer as little as possible. Corine suggests that, instead of blow drying your hair from soaking wet, let it air dry to 80 per cent and then break out your blow dryer. For curly haired folk, the DEVACURL DevaFuser Diffuser is great because it delivers a 360-degree airflow, which dries hair faster.
number 4. Corine’s favourite eco-friendly beauty life hack: use shampoo instead of body wash while washing your hair to reduce excess product going down the drain.
number 5. Get your hair done at an affiliate of Green Circle Salons! Chatters Salons continues to participate in the Green Circle movement, which mandates all foils, hair-colour by product, papers, plastic used are recycled or repurposed.
