6 Mommy and Me Mother’s Day Gifts

May 7, 2018

The ideal Mother’s Day? Sleeping late, brioche in bed and a day of quiet leisure. What we’ll likely get: a 6 a.m. wake up followed by wet kisses and burnt toast. Given that so much of motherhood involves steely patience, reluctant compromise and a whole lot of wiping, a nice gift on Sunday, May 13th can go a very long way. With that in mind, here are some fab pairings for all the mighty mums and their mini mes. —Marianne Wisenthal

fish water pearl rings. Named after Jacqueline Roque, the wife and muse of Pablo Picasso, Vancouver-based Roque makes pieces that are modern, effortless and oh-so-pretty (Diane Kruger is big fan!). We love that the company’s matching 14K gold rings ($345) are crafted using recycled and locally sourced materials. Even better? When your little’un grows, the smaller ring can be worn on a chain around her neck. Aw.

plum pretty sugar kimonos. Real flowers may not last forever, but these robes from Plum Pretty Sugar are in for the keep and bloomin’ marvelous. Perfect for snuggly Sunday mornings and breakfasts in bed, these cotton voile beauties (from $110 US) come in ankle or knee length and a whole range of Cali-cool prints.

cabootie gift sets. From olive brushed denim and gold dots to lace print and glow skulls, these matching vegan cotton booties ($67) from Cabootie have a whole lot going for them besides looks. The flexible rubber soles means toddlers won’t slip and mums can tiptoe around during naptime. Also, the elastic around the ankles ensure they won’t fall off baby’s squirmy feet. Mom crisis averted.

arborist pop icon onesies. Quintessentially Canadian, we can’t think of a single mom (or kid) who’d turn their nose up at a cosy onesie. Arborist’s waffle cotton jammies (from $40) feature a bunch of Canuck icons like Margaret Atwood, Drake, Geddy Lee and Justin Trudeau. Get one for dad and mommy’s ‘gram feed will totally blow up.

bejad swimsuits. Made in Quebec and cute as heck, BeJAD’s collection of mère et fille suits ($96) come in loads of fetching patterns from unicorn and flamingos to palm leaves and pineapples. Customizable in bandeau or triangle style, these lined spandex swimmers are handmade to order and built to last. Splash!

booya! bandages. We can’t explain a toddler’s love for sticky bandages but, boo-boo or not, they might as well look good—and match mom’s. Booya! is a newly launched fashion-forward bandage (think gold glitter and sparkle zebra stripes for $6 US per pack of 16) perfect for addressing minor cuts and scrapes, jazzing up matching mommy and me outfits or (full parenting disclosure) moments when bribery (i.e., if you brush your teeth, I’ll give you a bandaid) is the only option (don’t judge).
